Christian Yogic Meditation

Also called Yeshu Abba Consciousness

Swami Amaldas

Michael Glazier, Inc., Wilmington

1982

A comprehensive method of Christian Yogic meditation as taught by a member of Fr. Bede Griffiths’ ashram, Shantivanam. Brother Amaldas sees in Christ the personification of both divine power (enlightenment) and earthly powers, symbolized by the serpent (nature and the subconscious) giving Him dominance over the Cosmos. An interesting and poetic commentary is presented, with much practical advice on techniques of attaining Christ Consciousness through Breath Control, Yoga Nidra, Kundalini Shakti, as well as aids in overcoming various problems in human relationships.

This book was also reviewed in a later bulletin under its English title, Christian Yogic Meditation. The reviewer noted:

While the contents are enriching for those beginning Yogic meditation, one feels the loss, of the deep symbolism on the original cover where Christ is seated in Padmasana atop a serpent with seven heads, symbolizing the energy centers in each of us; the serpent being the universal symbol of spiritual power, or shakti, in which the human and divine power are found in harmony. Swami Amaldas reflects for us in the book on each of the charges the light of the Christian mystery lived to the full. The book is a helpful addition for those seeking to understand and appreciate the Eastern gift in the light of Christ’s good news!
